Not Every Judoka Needs The Same Judogi
A young beginner stepping onto the mat for the first time has very different requirements from an athlete training four or five times a week - and an international competitor has a different set of demands again.
That doesn’t mean you need to buy the most expensive judogi you can find. It means choosing a suit that matches how you train, how often you train and where you want your judo to take you.
At Fighting Films, we’ve been making judogi since 1988, so we understand that one size - or one suit - doesn’t fit every judoka.
For Young Beginners: 1st or Hajime
For a young judoka just starting out, comfort, fit and value are often the most important things.
There’s no need to put a brand-new beginner into a heavyweight competition judogi. They need a suit that lets them learn, move freely and get used to training in a judogi - while standing up to the demands of regular club sessions.
Our 1st and Hajime judogi are designed with those early stages in mind, making them a practical choice for young beginners who are getting to grips with the sport.
1st judogi is perfect for very young children starting judo for the first time. >see more<

And for a Strong, light and beautifully finished, choose a Hajime judogi for a fun and engaging embroidery on the shoulder that will get the kids excited about judo. >see more<

And, of course, children grow. Sometimes the most important thing about a first judogi is simply finding one that fits well without spending more than you need to.
Training Regularly? You’ll Notice the Difference
Once you're training several times a week, your judogi becomes a much bigger part of your judo.
A judoka training four or five times a week will put considerably more wear through a suit than someone who trains once a week. You may start to notice the difference in fabric weight, durability, fit and how the judogi feels during repeated gripping and throwing.
That’s where something like the Red Label comes in. >see more<

The Red Label is an affordable step up for judoka and regular club training - giving you a robust, comfortable judogi without moving straight into a premium competition suit.
For a young trainer who is progressing quickly and spending plenty of time on the mat, it can offer that extra level of durability and feel that makes sense for their training.
When Competition Becomes the Focus
For experienced judoka competing regularly, the requirements change again.
You want a judogi that can handle intense training, repeated gripping and the demands of competition, while giving you the fit and construction you expect when you step onto the international stage.
That’s where the Fighting Films Superstar 650 and Superstar 750 come in.
The Superstar 650 is a competition-ready judogi built to the high standard you expect from Fighting Films, making it a strong choice for serious competitors looking for a suit designed around the demands of modern judo. >see more<

For athletes competing at the highest level, the Superstar 750 takes things further. It is designed for international-level competition, combining premium construction with the quality and performance expected from a top-end Fighting Films judogi. >see more<

When you're training and competing at that level, small differences can become much more noticeable. The way a jacket fits, how it holds up to repeated gripping, the feel of the fabric and the overall construction can all matter when your judogi is being put through its paces week after week.
So, Does Your Judogi Make a Difference?
Yes - but the right judogi makes the difference.
A beginner doesn't necessarily need the same features as an international competitor. Equally, someone training four or five times a week may quickly outgrow what they need from an entry-level suit.
The key is matching your judogi to your judo.
Whatever stage you're at, your judogi should work with your judo, not get in the way of it.
