How to Choose the Right Judogi

Choose the Right Judogi for you

Choosing your first - or next - judogi can feel overwhelming. Lightweight or heavyweight? Training or competition? IJF Approved or not?

The good news is that the right judogi usually comes down to one simple question:

What stage are you at in your judo journey?

Just Starting Out?

If you're new to judo, your priority should be comfort, durability and value for money. Your first judogi needs to survive plenty of gripping, throwing and washing while helping you build confidence on the mat.

Our Starter range has been designed specifically with beginners in mind and offers everything you need for your first sessions and early gradings.

These are ideal for:

  • Beginners and recreational players
  • Children starting at club level
  • Adults returning to judo after time away
  • Training and club competitions

Training Regularly and Taking Judo Seriously?

Once you're training multiple times per week, attending gradings regularly and competing at club or regional level, you'll probably want something stronger, more comfortable and more durable.

Our Enthusiast range offers heavier weaves, premium construction and the durability needed for serious training sessions and regular randori.

These judogi are perfect for:

  • Dedicated club players
  • Regular competitors
  • Judoka training several times per week
  • Athletes who don't require IJF approval

Popular choices in this category include the legendary Superstar Classic and Black Label ranges, both trusted by serious judoka around the world for everyday training. The Black Label 600 is designed specifically as a high-quality training judogi and is not IJF Approved.

🏆 Competing Nationally or Internationally?🏆

If you're competing at higher-level events, you'll need an IJF Approved judogi that complies with current International Judo Federation regulations.

Our Elite range contains our competition-ready judogi worn by international athletes, European medallists and Olympians.
